GET READY FOR CLASS!
-
We do not have a strict dress code at UpStage! We simply have a few “asks” to help dancers feel comfortable and ready to move.
Ages 3–8 Ballet/Tap/Jazz: We love to see leotards, dance dresses, or active sets of any color with tights, but any stretchy-easy to move in attire works.
BALLET Class: We ask that dancers wear tights to every ballet class. We also love to see leotards and any color is welcome. Dancers may also wear accessories such as skirts, shorts, leg warmers, or wraps.
JAZZ/TAP Class: Dancers may wear any color of comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows them to move freely.
CONTEMPORARY Class: Dancers should wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows them to dance barefoot.
ALL Classes: No jeans, jean shorts/pants, pajama pants, or recital costumes. Dancers should wear comfortable, appropriate clothing that allows them to move freely and safely during class. Hair needs to be pulled up in a pony, bun, or braid.
Not sure what shoes your dancer needs? Check out our Shoe Requirements section below for a list of the shoes needed for each class!
-
Please see below for the shoe requirements based on your dancer’s class:
Ages 3-8 Combo Class Ballet/Tap/Jazz: Pink ballet shoes and black tap shoes.
Ballet Class: Pink ballet shoes.
Jazz/Tap Class: Tan jazz shoes and black tap shoes.
Contemporary: Dancers dance barefoot—no shoes are needed.
Acro: Dancers dance barefoot—no shoes are needed.
Where to Purchase Dance Shoes: Dance shoes can be purchased through UpStage using our paper form or here on our ONLINE ORDER FORM, or families are welcome to purchase shoes on their own from a dance store, Walmart, Amazon, or another retailer of their choice.

Dancers should come to class prepared with everything they need to have a successful and comfortable class!
Water bottle — Staying hydrated is important!
Dance bag — A designated dance bag is helpful for keeping shoes and belongings together.
Dance shoes — Be sure your dancer has the appropriate shoes for their class.
Any other essentials — This may include hair ties, a snack for longer days, or any other items your dancer may need.
Tip: We recommend labeling your dancer’s shoes, dance bag, water bottle, and other belongings with their name!

At UpStage, we believe every dancer deserves to feel seen, supported, and encouraged to shine! We are a small town sister-owned studio where our dancers and families truly become part of our UpStage family. With personalized instruction, experienced teachers, and a positive, welcoming environment, we strive to help every dancer grow—not only as a dancer, but also in confidence, character, and a love for dance.

No, at UpStage, we offer both recreational and competition dance, so families can choose the experience that is the best fit for their dancer. Our recreational classes are a great option for dancers who simply want to enjoy dance, learn new skills, and have fun, while our Competition Team is available for dancers who are ready for a more intensive commitment.
-
We typically ask dancers to have at least one year of dance experience at UpStage, although we are always open to considering dancers with other experience. Dancers must also meet our current age requirements; this year, dancers have to be 7 years old to join.
The best way to get started is to get in the door! We encourage dancers to start with our recreational classes and get to know us and our studio.
We host Competition Team sign-ups and auditions each summer prior to the upcoming competitive season!
-
We have a “Holiday Showcase” to close our Sept-Dec, fall season, and a “Spring Recital” at the end of the school year in May. Read more about our performance opportunities on our “about us” page!

At UpStage Dance Academy, we want our studio to be a welcoming, positive, and safe environment where every dancer feels comfortable learning, growing, and having fun! Our policies help us create a great experience for our dancers, families, and teachers.
Attendance & Absences
Please let us know when your dancer will be absent from class whenever possible.
Consistent attendance is important for dancers to make progress and for classes to move forward together.
Arrival & Pick-Up
Please have dancers arrive on time and ready for class.
Children should not be left unattended in the lobby for extended periods of time. If you need to drop your dancer off earlier than 15 minutes before class, please let us know.
Please be prompt when picking dancers up after class. Our teachers may have another class beginning immediately afterward and cannot supervise dancers in the lobby after class.
Parents/guardians are responsible for siblings or other children who are waiting in the lobby and are not participating in class.
Bathroom & Personal Needs
We encourage all dancers to use the restroom before class.
Please let a teacher know if your dancer has a specific bathroom or personal need we should be aware of.
Respect & Behavior: We expect all dancers to…
Treat teachers, classmates, and other families with kindness and respect.
Listen to and follow teacher instructions.
Respect the studio, equipment, mirrors, floors, and other property.
Help keep the studio clean and organized.
Encourage and support fellow dancers.
Illness
For the health and safety of our dancers and teachers, please keep your dancer home if they are experiencing symptoms of a contagious illness. When in doubt, please contact us before bringing your dancer to class.
Our Studio Community
We believe dance should be a positive experience for everyone. We ask our dancers and families to contribute to an encouraging studio environment where everyone is treated with kindness, patience, and respect.
Thank you for helping us make UpStage Dance Academy a place where every dancer shines! ✨
